About me

I’m a qualified Hip Hop Dance Instructor offering personalized lessons and secret concepts and techniques to students all over the world. I started my dance career in 2014 but I have been dancing long before then.

My talent has taken me far and wide and has given me the opportunity to dance for some of the biggest musicians in my country and to perform for members of some of the best dance crews in the USA like the Jabbawockeez and the Kinjaz.

I always knew I wanted to work as a professional Hip Hop Dance Instructor since I have a fierce love of working with people and sharing my true passion with them. No matter who I’m teaching, I thrive on seeing my students grow and develop as they discover what they can achieve.

Experience

I am mostly self taught, but over the years I have received training and mentorship from dance schools such as M&M Dance Factory, Jibilaka, Alliance France Dance School, Solo Expressions Cape Town, Euro Millionaire UK, Lesedi Muzvimbi and Tony Tran From The Kinjaz. I have had the chance to perform in countless battles and performances aswell as for various local Zimbabwean artists such as The Signs, Tamy Moyo: A notorious Zimbabwean Musician (Insta @Tamy_Moyo) EXQ: A notorious Zimbabwean Musician (Insta @Mrputiti), M&M dance factory (Somewhere under the rainbow reps theater), Solo Expressions (international competition.) and Dreamstar to mention a few.

THE POWER OF DANCE

To begin with, my style of dance is unique as it draws on various types of art forms in order to touch the souls of the viewer in an inspiring way. In fact my style of dance has been known to stimulate neural emotional responses in people based off its nature.  Evidence of this can be seen in a study done on the effects of dance on the neural response to emotional stimuli “Further- more, in accordance with our hypothesis, the hip-hop dance training activated a neural response specifically to pleasant emotional stimuli in the TPJ and insular cortex.”

From this piece of evidence we can see that hip hop dance is a powerful tool that can help move the hearts and minds of people in order to think a certain way about a specific topic.

WHERE DANCE CAN BE USED OT TELL STORIES

Styles of dance that are mainly used to tell stories are contemporary dance, ballet and jazz as these style focuses more on getting the viewer to see the whole picture of the dance as opposed to just being dazzled by moves however with the timeless evolution of dance many more styles are being used to do the same thing in more powerful and captivating ways.

One example of where dance has been used to tell captivating stories is through the 2016 Netflix series “The Get Down.” This series that’s set in the late 1970s explores the birth of hiphop culture in the bronx and dives into the lives of a group of young people trying to escape the hard life they are facing in the bronx through hip-hop dance. Furthermore dance has been used as a tool to bring awareness to various life issues such as drug abuse, fending for the homeless, cleaning up the city campaigns and much more.

DANCE IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR BROADWAY PERFORMERS

Versatility is key when trying to become a broadway performer, or any performer for that matter. The more styles one knows they better as there are multiple performances that take place in one night with various styles of dance to cater to various audience tastes.

Another thing that’s looked down upon is metal resilience. Mental resilience is to be able to push through long tedious rehearsals, confusing choreography and intense nerve-racking performances is essential for dancers. Meditation sessions are strongly recommended.

Lastly being able to have character or act though your movement is crucial, because this brings life to your movement. Putting narrative and a story behind your dance makes you more appealing to your audience and gives them the chance to resonate with your dance and understand it on a much deeper level.

This skill helps you translate your emotions into your dance and its a valuable skill, because it’s not a skill that can be taught easily as it is so unique and diverse depending on the person portraying it.
